Frontend Software Engineer - Marine industry

Location: Plymouth onsite 5 days per week

Salary: Up to £50k salary

We partner with a software engineering firm that specialises in edge-based sensor-driven cognitive artificial intelligence to deliver safety-critical marine autonomy. Drawing on decades of experience in manned and unmanned vehicle design, manufacture and operations, coupled with vast experience in automation and autonomous systems software architecture and computer vision experience.

Role:

• Reporting to the Chief Software Engineer you will work on building the frontend including UI and utilising React/Javascript.
• Perform design and development of various web applications, software products and libraries
• This is a key role really building out the customer user interface that controls a number of backend marine autonomy applications
• Write technical documents explaining procedures, functions as well as end-user operational documentation.

What are we looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a similar discipline.
• Strong skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript along with their respective coding practices.
• A strong understanding of backend JavaScript frameworks, such as NodeJS and ExpressJS.
• Strong debugging skills, and the ability to independently detect bugs/problems and solve them.
• Fluency with Linux and windows development environment and Docker containers.
• Knowledge of communication techniques (i.e., RestAPI, WebSockets, MQTT, etc.)
• Strong understanding of software design methodologies.

Software Engineer - Marine industry

We are now looking to hire a Software Engineer to join the team and to continue with development. You will use specialised software such as IBMs Operational Decision Manager. 

The Role:

Based at the Plymouth site 5 days per week, this role will require a Software Engineer with skills in:

• Expert capability in C/C#
• Working knowledge of ASP.Net and WPF
• Strong capabilities in Azure DevOps (ie NuGet, pipelines)
• Experience with ML and AI
• WinOS and Linux
• Docker

Software Tester

Onsite in Plymouth (will need to be SC cleared)

Base to £45,000

We work with a leading player in the design, manufacture and construction of underwater vehicles and equipment. We now need to help them to expand the team by hiring a Software tester to focus on the growth of their work on marine autonomy.

Role:

• Write software test plans describing the tests, testing environment, acceptance criteria, and author reports summarizing the tests carried out.
• Collaborate with software owners to ensure software quality standards are adhered to throughout development and deployment of software.
• Assist in writing unit tests for both existing and future code based on functional requirements. The candidate will be required to write primarily in C#.
• Conduct integration testing in a dedicated simulation environments to ensure that the systems communicate amongst each correctly.
• Perform functional testing to verify that the functional specification has been satisfied.
• Manage CI/ CD pipelines within Azure DevOps.
• The test engineer will be report to the lead technical engineer.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics, robotics, or similar discipline.
• Strong skills in C# and C++, and their respective testing practices, and frameworks.
• Keen interest in the maritime sector and a willingness to continue to develop their skillset through mentoring and courses.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment

Desirable Experience:

• Knowledge of mechanics, statistics and understanding of applied mathematics.
• A proficiency in python programming.
• Knowledge of various sensor systems (i.e., EO/ IR cameras, Radar, LIDAR, etc.)
• Strong understanding of software design methodologies.
• Thorough understanding of working in development, staging, and production environments

Due to the sensitive nature of the work involved, you may be required to gain SC clearance and this is a fulltime office based role.
