Job Description

Data Scientist

London/Hybrid

Up to £60k base

True personalised learning takes both the content of what is being learned and the style of learning into account. It recognises that each student has their own individual way of taking in and processing information, and adjusts the teaching methods and materials accordingly. This means that rather than each student being taught in the same way, they are instead given the freedom to learn in a way that suits them best. In addition, true personalised learning also allows for students to pursue their own interests and follow their own passions. As a result, they are more engaged and motivated, and more likely to achieve success.

Our client is building an educational tech platform using AI to achieve these results.

The role:

We are now looking for a Junior to Mid-level Data Scientist/Data Generalist to join the team and own all of the data projects. You will report directly in to the CTO.

The majority of the previous data work has been around the assessment tool.  This was recently released into production and is currently gathering data. A large part of your first few months would be to
process/analyse this data and help define the future of the assessment.

Additional projects that are either at proof of concept or idea stage, such as:
  • Using sentiment analysis to understand from an educator's notes if the session and learning materials were effective. (Proof of concept)
  • Student-tutor matching based on learning profiles (generated by assessment) as well as things like budget, location, availability, etc. (Proof of concept)
  • Student wellbeing monitoring (ideation)
  • Using computer vision (and other ML/AI strategies) to understand a specific worksheet and possibly even create new ones (ideation)

The tech stack is primarily Typescript with a few python functions for some heavy lifting. They also have a few existing Jupyter Notebooks where some analysis has been created.

Alongside your data work, they look for people willing to flex and to get involved in other areas where needed

What are we looking for:

  • A real passion for all things data
  • Someone who is keen to own major parts of the data process, from collection and analysis through to implementation
  • A desire to help to build a data engineering function and to influence which roles and skills are hired to complement your own
  • A willingness to learn and to develop further
